So, by now you’ve probably heard about the Meltdown or Spectre vulnerability. What does it mean for the average person? Well, these vulnerabilities allow attackers to exploit the processor (CPU) of your PC and read applications or files to steal important sensitive data. What’s the short story? Do your updates! CPU vendors realized this risk and were working quickly to patch the vulnerability. Unfortunately, the updates that patch the vulnerabilities are only a band-aid solution and it can slow your PC down by up to 30% on slower CPUs and as little as 5% on faster performing CPUs.
